Remote Office: How it Benefits My Life

business office

May 29, 2019

My remote office made it possible to start a freelance writing career. It gave me the ability to be a stay-at-home mom and bring in an income. It’s safe to say, my remote office benefits my life.

What is a remote office?

A remote office is any home based office space used to work remotely. It may be in a spare bedroom or a nook in the kitchen. Some homes are even built with an extra room designed to be a home office space.

Any place where you have room to work can serve as a remote office. The people I bought my house from had a remote office built in the finished basement. Both Jeffrey Bezos of Amazon, and Bill Gates of Microsoft, had remote offices in their garage.

A remote office replaces the need for spending money renting an expensive corporate office located hours from home. It provides a greater balance between work and home life by eliminating wasted time and the need to take sick days or vacation days when your family needs you.

Best of all, a remote office is designed by you for the sole purpose of doing the work you love in a place you want to be. It’s become the modern day American dream– business success without family sacrifice.

You don’t have to spend a substantial amount of money putting an addition on your home or renovating the old nursery. A remote office just needs to be comfortable and organized in a way that makes doing your job easier and successfully.

A remote office can be anywhere and anything you need it to be in order to get to work on being the best at whatever you do. As a freelance writer, my dream remote office is a big R.V. so I can travel and write about the places I’ve been.

Virtual Office

As compared to a remote office, a virtual office offers the benefits of having an office in a corporate setting without the expenses associated with leasing an office. A virtual office gives your business a corporate address to use in place of using the address of your remote office.

This address gives your business legitimacy in the eyes of the consumer and gives them a sense that your business can be trusted. Having a virtual office with an address in a familiar corporate neighborhood will give your business the advantages that come from being in a great location.

Who uses a remote office?

So many people are opting to work from home these days, it may be easier to make a list of people who don’t use a remote office. Freelance writers, proofreaders, and editors are the type of jobs you may think of first when you hear the terms remote office or working from home.

Beyond office related skills like bookkeeping and tax preparation, just about anyone could work in a remote office setting.

Who Needs a Virtual Office

Anyone who has a remote business could benefit from having a virtual office. The services they provide, beyond the corporate address, can help you build your business faster and for less money than having a traditional office.  Professional services such as:

  • Live receptionist to answer phone calls and greet clients
  • Mail handling services to keep you up-to-date on invoices, communications, and client needs
  • Access to state-of-the-art meeting spaces with the latest in technology to meet your business needs
  • Fully furnished office spaces for times you need to work somewhere other than your remote office
  • Website development and hosting to showcase your business in the best way online
  • Local SEO specialists to keep your business at the top of the searches so people will find your business first

What does a remote office need?

The answer all depends on what type of work you plan on doing in your remote office. For me, I just need a desk or table where I can write out my ideas on paper before breaking out the laptop to type out the final draft.

Other jobs may require a quiet environment for handling phone calls, listening to dictation, or producing studio-quality audio recordings. Whatever your business needs to function at its best is what you need for your remote space.

Benefits of Having a Remote Office

The benefits of having a remote office will vary from person to person. As I mentioned before, my remote office launched my career and let me be at home with my daughter during the most important years of her development.

  • Having a remote office means being able to work from the comforts of home. The freedom to create an inspiring work space will increase productivity and overall well-being.
  • No distractions from working in a shared office environment where you feel trapped inside the flimsy walls of cubicles.
  • Having a remote office means no more wasted time stuck in traffic commuting to a mind numbing building.
  • No longer a slave to the clock. Flexibility to work at your own pace, eat lunch at 3 or catch a matinee in the middle of the work week.
  • Having a remote office gives you more time to spend with your family and take care of those you love when they need you most.
  • No more stress of commuting in endless traffic or headaches of office drama (unless you have kids, then it’ll just be drama!)
  • Having a remote office benefits your health. Besides the reduction in stress, people who work in a remote office tend to eat healthier and have more time for exercise and other active lifestyles

There is so much to gain from working in a remote office. The benefits you’ll experience in your business will encourage you to build your own global empire. The benefits you’ll experience in your personal life will have positive rippling effects on your health and most importantly, your relationships with family and friends.

Benefits of a Virtual Office

Running your own business means having to manage everything about your business. By using the services of a virtual office space, you will be able to put your time and energy towards being a success. You’ll have more freedom to grow and expand your business without the constraints of managing a big corporation. Most importantly, you’ll have the assistance of professionals whose goal is to help you succeed.

The world is a global market, ever expanding and changing as time passes. The benefits you’ll experience when you add a virtual office to your business are far beyond the price of their services. The flexibility it will add to your schedule, the opportunity to work anywhere around the world, and the expertise of their staff will secure your future in the world of business.
